Senator Nick Xenophon says the Federal Government needs to urgently act on recommendations made by a Senate Inquiry in December 2015 to address critical skills shortages currently crippling large parts of the automotive sector.

Governments normally have three months to respond to Senate Inquiry recommendations, but have failed to do so here.

The Australian automotive sector will still contribute a massive $37.1 billion to the economy (2.2 per cent of GDP) beyond the end of local car manufacturing in October.

And there are currently a record 27,000 auto job vacancies waiting to filled, upped to a staggering 35,000 vacancies in the sector within a year — contrary to generally-held views.

The Motor Trade Association of WA will soon be launching an online member directory.  Available on the MTA WA website the interactive directory will allow consumers to find members in their local area.

The Directory is designed for consumers to intuitively search for automotive suppliers.  It allows them to search by post code, suburb and type of service.
